A/W Hair Trend Report: The Iconic Bob Returns

The Sexy 60s Bob

Anna Sui sent her models strutting down the catwalk with sexy sixties style bobs for A/W 13. Thick and bouncy, with lots of volume on the crown and flyaway strands, this bedhead bob style is fun, youthful with a touch of undone glamour. A choppy and messy fringe was also added for a peek-a-boo effect, making this a cute and sexy bob style.

The Grungy 90s Bob

One of the strongest trends this year, in fashion, beauty and hair is nineties grunge. A long bob with no fringe is ideal for imitating this cool trend; style into a low side parting and add a wet look gel to the front and ends to create a grungy feel. The wet-look effect is another key hair trend this season seen at the Balmain, Gucci and Jason Wu shows and is the perfect way to edge up a bob and wear it in a statement style. Shorter bobs look striking completely slicked back with a wet-look gel; wear with a tailored suit for an androgynous style and add bold makeup in the form of dark lips or smudgy black eyes for a strong and powerful style.

The Modern Bob

The most modern bob style is the choppy, shaggy bob made iconic by Alexa Chung and seen at the Narciso Rodriguez show, where textured layers were chopped into the bobs to create a carefree tousled look. This style of bob is perfect for those who cannot commit to regular upkeep of their hair, as it can be cut fairly short yet will grow out into gorgeous style. A loose and messy fringe suits this bob and can be worn to the side or parted in the middle when growing out with the hair. For a lived in, boho style and to add interest, slices of blonde or light brown can be added from the middle to the tips of the hair.

A Style To Suit All Face Shapes

It's a myth that only certain face shapes suit a bob. A long face can be shortened by choosing the sexy sixties bob thanks to the fringe hiding half of the face. The grungy nineties long bob with no layers will thin out a round, fuller face and the shaggy bob with cheekbone framing layers can add structure to an unstructured face. Whatever your face shape, style and personality, there's no excuse to be on trend this season by sporting the iconic bob.
